TBN: Tower Safety
INTRODUCTION
These guidance notes provide practical guidance on the safe use of ALTO Access Towers, including Medium Duty (MD) and Industrial (HD) aluminium mobile access towers. They are not a substitute for formal training, Risk Assessments, or Method Statements (RAMS), and should be used alongside the manufacturer’s instructions.
The document is intended to support personnel involved in the planning, assembly, use, or dismantling of mobile access towers, promoting compliance with BS EN 1004-1:2020 and BS 1139-6 where applicable.

WHEN SAFE TOWER USE IS REQUIRED
All ALTO towers, when assembled in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, are inherently stable. Additional considerations may be required in circumstances such as:
-
Uneven or sloping ground
-
Increased tower height or complex configurations
-
Unusual or uneven loads
-
Confined spaces limiting standard stabilisers
APPLICATION
This guidance applies to the planning, assembly, inspection, and dismantling of ALTO towers. Following these practices improves both safety and compliance, ensuring operatives can work securely at height.
